Welcome to GlassPassions
My collection of lampworked creations. Lampworking is a name given to the art of working molten glass in a flame to create glass beads and small decorative objects. The origins of glass bead making probably date to about 3,000 years ago in such areas as Egypt, Greece and Persia. The name Lampworking comes from the time of the Renaissance. Artists at that time were using oil lamps to work their glass, and eventually discovered they could achieve a hotter and more usable flame by introducing air into the flame. After a bit of experimentation, they developed foot operated bellows to manage the stream of air needed to keep their flame hot enough. Today, table top torches are used with propane and oxygen to achieve a super hot flame to work the soda lime or borosilicate glass used. All of my work is done with soda lime glass, and all pieces are kiln annealed for strength, durability and longevity.
Available work
Includes necklaces, earrings, bookmarkers, cabinet knobs, and essential oil vials. All jewelry is made with sterling silver findings, and accompanied with handmade Bali silver beads directly from Indonesia. The glass bead bookmarkers are hung on a pewter decorative base. The cabinet knobs are made with 8-32 standard cupboard screw thread inserts, and are sent with 2 lengths of screws to fit your cupboard depth. The edges of the stem of the cabinet knobs are slightly beveled away from the metal base (by machine grinder) to alleviate stress on the neck of the knob when screwing onto the cupboard, but does not diminish its appearance against the cupboard.
Custom orders welcome!
Please feel free to contact me at info@glasspassions.com if you have any special orders. I enjoy custom work, which will be priced the same as non custom work. There are endless possibilities of color and style, so feel free to make a request. Colors and styles are virtually endless, so it is worth inquiring! The dimensions of the available cabinet knobs will be listed in the description, and generally can be made in dimensions from 5/8 to 1 ¼ inches in diameter. The stems are ½ inch long and wide unless otherwise requested.
All pieces are individually made and unique!
Each bead, each cabinet knob and vessel are handmade by me, and are therefore unique. There will be, just as in any glass piece, slight variation which adds to its artful value and charm. I am very careful to measure with calipers and am diligent in recreating patterns so that you will be happy with the results, buy you can rest assure that no one else will have exactly the same piece as you.
Thank you for reviewing my work,
